BBC Two on 19 June at 9.00pm to 10.00pm

To the outside world, Lorraine Pascale is the successful TV chef, bestselling author and ex-model but there’s another side to her story.

Given up at birth, adopted at 18 months old and then fostered aged eight when her family broke down, she really has been through the system.

In this one-off film for BBC Two, Lorraine traces her own personal story and the impact fostering had on her life, while providing an insider’s guide to foster care system today.

Recounting her childhood experience of being in care, Lorraine tracks down the foster carers who looked after her as a child, who she hasn’t seen for over 30 years.

With extraordinary access to Lambeth Council Social Services, Lorraine meets people at every stage of the fostering process. From social workers and foster carers past and present, to the children and young people currently in care, Lorraine finds out what it takes to be a foster carer, and what the children think of the system and care they receive.

Interwoven with her own story, Lorraine examines the realities of fostering life and looks at the current issues facing the fostering system.
